LEGO | Barad-dûr

HBO is running a Lord of the Rings marathon today, and the final installment, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King is being shown as I write this. Watching that movie all over again reminded me of this incredible LEGO creation that was built last year for the Brickworld convention.

Kevin Walter's LEGO Barad-dûr

The LEGO Barad-dûr was built by Kevin Walter using approximately 50,000 bricks and is a replica of Sauron's infamous tower seen in the The Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King. Kevin managed to construct the tower using only a small collectible model as a guide, and actually started working on it in late 2010.

The finished tower took around two and a half months to build, and is an awesome sight to behold--it's almost six feet tall and has lots of amazing detail, including Sauron's eye at the top, and pools of lava below.

Though LEGO's official Lord of the Rings sets just came out recently, they certainly pale in comparison to this spectacular custom-built creation. Kevin Walter's Barad-dûr is yet another example of how creativity and skill will let you build anything out of LEGO. Awesome job, Kevin!
